Hello, it's blog time! Probably a short one today, think I say that every time at this stage. This time I mean it, dammit "I'll Just Tap It the Other Way..." It's been a week of tweaking for me so far with little things being done here and there. To be more specific, I've been working on getting the other half of the GUI, or right hand side, working as it should. It's mainly been some copying and pasting of the same code as the left hand side but there's been some tweaks that needed to be made to make it work properly. So, now with that working, we've nearly got the GUI 100% finished. The final thing to be implemented is the items section which will be on the right side of the screen. Another part of the GUI that needed some tweaking was the EXP bar. The problem was it would only extend to half the screen or so when playing in full screen or sometimes go continue off the screen in some cases. That's now been fixed. I've also been tweaking the pause menu as well. Initially, the plan was to only include Audio and Control Settings in the in-game pause menu but after some discussion we decided it would be better to include the video settings too. I'm just going through the process of re-enabling them in the pause menu, which shouldn't take too long to do. At the moment, I'm also adding in attack splashes. They've been in the game for a while but there's been a pretty major problem with them. The projectiles are reacting too slowly to collisions which means the splashes are appearing in the middle of objects rather than on the surface. It looks like they've been fixed but we'll have to see how the solution reacts with weaker PC's before I can safely say it's fixed. Hopefully, it's sorted though We're hoping to get some more white-boxing done this week and possibly get the Air Temple white boxing close to finished and possibly do some more next week too. That's the plan, anyway. GabeN InsideIt's also been a week of being like Children on Christmas eve for us here at Burn Bright Games. We've both been waiting patiently for our PC's. Adrian had his built and picked it up today...on a day when he has no electricity. Hilarious timing, if you ask me! Mine is currently sitting beside me in a glorified and expensive unmade jigsaw. The lack of any Hard Drives is currently my only problem. The plan is to either build it tomorrow and just use my old HDD from current PC or just wait impatiently until the new one is here. Either way, I'm using the old HDD in the new PC. The new HDD is mainly for my Steam library than anything else. We'll see And We've Made it...We'll leave it there until Sunday Musings.
Hope you all have a good week! See you then I couldn't think of a title, so I went with a subtitle Youtube coughed up when Adrian was watching a Japanese video on walking animations...Thanks, Youtube, I suppose. So, It's my turn to write the blogs this week. Sorry this is later than usual, we were trying to fix some stuff, more on that in a moment... There Isn't a Facpalm Big Enough...Oh Wait, There is...So for the past week I've been back working on Reprieve and it's been awesome to say the least. Missed doing work on it. As Adrian mentioned in Sunday Musings last week, I managed to get a new Save system implemented. Pretty standards things in there. There are 10 save slots, game saves to the Documents directory, creating a folder if one doesn't exist. The game also asks you if you want your old save overwritten and saves a screenshot when you saved, so you know which save is which. There's also some minor things that are noted, like the amount of time played in a save to the date and time of the save. As I said, pretty standard stuff for a game but we're pretty happy with how it's turned out, in terms of how it works. Aesthetically, it'll improve later on, as will all the menus. So this week, I've been working on various things throughout the game. The fixing I referred to at the start was about the games new in-game title sequence (after the prologue). Basically, I had one of those all too common "IT'S ALL UNITY'S FAULT" moments before quickly (but in no way quickly) realising it was actually me just having yet another absent minded moment. The problem was that the main character is in every scene, when a scene is loaded up, that character is the player but if you play through from the first level, the character from the first level persists and the character in each scene is destroyed. The script for the title sequence was looking for the scene character rather than the actual character and chaos ensued...Think it took near an hour to fix before I realised. Hence, the giant facepalm. I've also been doing some initial work on the game's GUI. It's now in place with some of the parts moving, I just now need to get it working with the various controls which should be done by the end of the week, we hope. We've now finally got the build working with all the levels so far. Up until now, a problem with some vines was making the build exe about 3 or 4 levels shorter than it should have been. This how now been finally fixed, so we can play all the way through. Play All the Games...or Barely Any...This probably isn't a shock to anyone familiar with Steam Sales but I've not played a Single game I bought in the Steam Sale since it ended, or at least I don't think I have It's been fairly light on games for us recently, I'm afraid. I've recently start to try get better at Assetto Corsa but I'm not sure that's been in any way successful. I crash more than Pastor Maldonado which is not exactly the best thing... We did play some Risk of Rain though! Did a playthrough that lasted about 2 hours or so which was great fun. Can't stress how much I love that damn game, it's amazing. Let the Jigsawing Commence...in a WhileI'm now, finally the proud owner of an SSD. After taking an age to decide to actually buy one, I've finally went through with it. I'm waiting to install it in my new PC, so that'll be a while yet I think. So far I've got the case, case lights, SSD and I'm awaiting the watercooler which should be here next week. Still got about 5 parts or so to buy before I put it all together. Another Blog in the Can......Not the toilet, just so we're clear ಠ_ಠ
And we've reached the end. Hopefully, there'll be some GUI stuff, screenshots and what not to show in Sunday Musings this week. Until then, enjoy your week! |
