Hey all! So gonna dive right in here. Since my last post I have been crazy busy with modelling and now texturing more and more things for reprieve. During the week I was also Woking on lava splashes and jumping fireballs :D. Fun for all the family if they love fire based carnage. Now we are ready for me to model out the Fire Temple and move onto white boxing more stuff for the next section of the game. Also Am working on sprites for a new mobile game that will be ready for its first appearance soon. Its a classic game getting rebooted :D I'm going to cut to the chase but we went to dub ludo last night and boy it was a great night. Its good that we are now seeing people who are regulars to the dubLudo scene and we can not only chat about each others progress but give honest hints and tips at design as our games progress. Last night we were graced by the presence of Ben Prunty (as Shown Above) the audio designer for games like FTl and now working with BitsmithGames on Frank'n'John. He gave a talk about how he got started and how things have changed since he started in the indie game scene. Also at dubLudo was Brenda Romero a real big cheese down at the cracker factory of games. Brenda has been working in the gaming world since she was 15 and has the same birthday as yours truly. She was really nice and even played reprieve so did Ben Prunty and both game great positive reactions to it :D Both are over from the USA and we hope we gave them a warm welcome last night at dubLudo. Also played alot of amazing and original games last night but we will talk more about them in Sunday musings :D As for everyone who played our game last night i would like to say Also made something for our email accounts that make them look all snazzy :D . I think it looks bit more professional then the basic gmail. I must bid you all a fond farewell as we are just about to play with the new unity beta and test out these Gui features :D.
The things you will need is
Well looks like its my turn to shine. So I have been busy modelling the world of the game. Currently have bedroom forests and kitchen done and working on out side town visuals as we speak. It has been a weird change modelling as I have been using 3ds max since beginning in Ballyfermot college. I have used max on commercial projects for studios who could afford the licence before but as we are indie I had to make the transition over to blender. The relationship between me and blender has been a sordid affair with emotion's ranging from rage and confusion to love and admiration. As the controls are completely different from what I was trained it the rage kicked in first. Left clicking when I should be Right clicking and Right when left its enough to drive a sane man mad(that is my excuse I am sticking to it!). But with time and A little loving I managed to quickly become efficient in creating models and learnt a cool way to also texture on my models in the program. I have recently started texturing the skyboxes for the game as well in blender with amazing results. I tip my hat to thee Blender. Poly count is always in the back of my head and making the game look its best but still being able to run on some people's low performance laptop's and still get the same experience. We thrive to give players the best experience we can give them. The above image is a white box. What does it mean? Why is it here ? ... It is here because we are busy as beavers making the out line design to all the scenes in the game this is a long a time consuming process but make time for it usually at night after a day of work so we have a good idea of what items we have and new mechanics we may have to build up the design of the world. Finally got a chance to review the Wii USo I have made the plunge and got my self a Wii U and have had it for a few weeks making it fair to leave an honest review of it and its games. To Start of the review I would like to say I <3 it. The console is a dream to play on and makes shopping for games online a breeze mostly compared to its previous excursion of the Wii store blegh. ----------------------------------------------------Console and controller------------------------------------------------- The console I got was the legend of Zelda WindWaker bundle. So my controller has all them cool little gold leaf. The console it self is tiny but a power house thought its limited space has already became a problem as 1 game that comes free already has half my hard drive taken up meaning digital downloads would mean arranging my space or saving externally on sd cards or Hard drives. The screen on the controller is great extension to the console as some times i would like to keep the tv running as I browse the store or let someone watch the tv as I play away with out disturbing any one. But to be fair I have already played a prank of changing tv on some one who is watching it while I play. Hilarity ensued. Sadly the range of games is growing but the best is yet to come and I wont get full use from the console until i get my grubby big hands on them :D ----------------------------------------------------------Game Visuals------------------------------------------------------ The games come with an amazing sense of freshness as the palette of colours in stunning HD makes for an amazing visual experience. The raised poly count with Stunning particles make the games pop. ----------------------------------------------------------Game Sounds----------------------------------------------------- Sounds on the Wii U are dramatic and make the world tie together in the games I own. The sound on the controller is not as tin like as they were on the wii controller and is slightly better then the 3ds in my opinion. The Nintendo charm of playing sound effects through the controller and music through the tv is still there but not used enough in my opinion. Hopefully future titles will fill this gap. -------------------------------------------------------------E-Store------------------------------------------------------------ The E store is a million times better then the store on the Wii. I cannot praise the ease of use of the store more I have purchased a few titles from it ow and it has been a pain free affair. Some thing I cannot say about the old store. Navigating with the screen makes searching much faster and something you can do while chilling watching TV. The E store is filled with great indie titles as well as first party Nintendo games and it will be draining my wallet for months to come ----------------------------------------------------------Final Thoughts----------------------------------------------------- Amazing console with great titles. The console it self needs a bigger Hard drives and i would like the option while using the Netflix app to turn off the screen as it distracts from the movie watching and I find my self turning the controller upside-down. I know its a minor complaint but small touches matter. Over all I would give the Wii U a good 8/10 Few fixes needed but overall a mighty fine addition to the console collection and will not become a dust collector like other named consoles I purchased. Final thoughtsIf you read this far well done have a cookie. post again real soon :D
