Technically I am back in school. I have recently started learning to texture from an online course on Udemy. I am learning from an amazing artist who was lead texture artist on World of Warcraft and have to say I am learning a lot about the hand painted style. This is going to boost the visuals of Reprive and any following games from burn bright games considerably. Above is a sword I modelled and textured as part fo the course and will show up in game most likely the blacksmith's work shop.Below is an image of a shield that I also made in this style hope you guys like the new style of textures. I am going to model alot this week and hope to get the firetemple modeled out and ready for the next play test. Levels will be modelled in full then split up into sections to make texturing easier. I am now baking the Normals and Ambient occlusion for the fire Temple boss and getting him ready for rigging and animation ASAP. More White Boxing Moving onto the white temple white boxing and setting up new puzzles and challenges for players. Many of the games sections will have new gameplay and will make players develop the play style as they progress through the world. Creating a fun experience that keeps players intrigued and having to think in every section of the game. Dan did a play through of the game so far and already with no real threat of enemies and the game is already 30 min long . We are super happy with this time frame as it shows that the world is the size we were aiming for. Also coming up with a new type of enemy that will have a impact on the way the next temple will actually play out. So keep your eye's peeled for that in the future either here or a future dubLudo if you get the chance! Long weekend of funYeah it was a long bank holiday here in Ireland and boy what a weekend for it to land on. As bayonetta 2 got its release on Wii U so that kept me busy and loving it. The action is as good as I remember and already clocked up 8 hours in bayonetta 1. Yes i had to get the double pack the series is too good not to. Fast action, great characters and hilarious moments this is one of my favourite games on my Wii U which is becoming one of my favourite consoles in a long time. Well thats my blog for the mid week >_-No one will ever know I wrote this on Tuesday XD unless they keep reading this then im screwed. I may be in the "Big Shmoke" at the time of this being posted. But I am back in the seat for blogging this sunday musings.

I wish :D . The only fire I am cozy against is the one in the fire temple and that is only emulation of real fire :(. Luckily with my feet at the fan of my pc even this cold wet Wednesday cannot dampen my spirits. So here we are again my friends another mid week blog post to tell you all my doings. Al ot has happened so far this week including paper work, taxes and other boring things. But no one wants to hear about that. I am here to tell you that so far this week I have got a full model done of the first fire temple level and am now starting to unwrap and texture it. I am also starting to model smaller parts taht will be used through-out the temple such as rocks and lanterns. Above shows what I did last week and boy that was fun experience making a giant nordic-esque statue that will be dotted around the fire temple. More statues to come based of the same design. Also I have Started the fire temple boss model :D and sticking close to the concept this is going to be a beast to create visually but I hope it comes across perfectly. Luckily the scene where the fight will take place will be pretty void and will make him more impressive to the player. Well what else this cant be the finalFinal Fantasy that is! Yes I am now playing Final Fantasy online and loving it. Bit confused at the start but now I am getting the hang of it. I started with a mage like character but quickly got bored of the play style due to being spoiled with guild wars 2 mage play style this feels so archaic. Luckily my second character lets me jump into combat fist first and punch my way to victory. Visual an amazing game and many a screen shot has been saved on my steam account :D. Now this is the finalThanks for giving this a read!
I am in charge for the Sunday musing's again and will be posting up more progress :D I had to think of a title. That was the only one I could think off, it has nothing to do with what follows and thus should be ignored..... The title not the stuff in the blog :D So boy it has been a fun one lately. I have been busy working on textures for the house and the fire temple. It is a slow process but I am now coming up with my own style that keeps the artistic brush strokes of the creation process but also gives enough detail to show the actual physical texture of the material I am painting. Studying the way light reacts with a material such as steel or wood helps create the over all effect and helps when I am painting in the lighting that is being cast in the scene in set places. Such as in front off the black smith's furnace in Evelyn's home the stone floor has an orange glow emanating from the light source of the fire. Another example is on the floor and ceiling near the door and window. I have painted the light flooding into the room and we add fake volumetric light shafts using planes to give the full effect. Right now I am making tile-able textures for the Fire Temple. This includes rock walls and 2 or 3 floor types. The reason for the many floor types is to show places that are meant to show civilisations of the past had lived in this temple and that some paths are still in good condition. Some in not so good condition and the rest are the bits that were not home to the human population in the Temple. I am also going to start building meshes for the firetemple this week and hopefully will have a fully furnished temple for the next dubLudo. ........ ........ Speaking of DubLudo we went Monday and had a blast. We got a lot of good feed back and noticed that my laptop with no graphics card and barely any ram may have some issues with scenes filled with stuff. So We have started looking into our benchmarking and testing what is the lowest requirements for our game. This is a major point as we progress the game we want people to have the best experience we can possibly give. Among this we played Rob Byrne's new game with space Viking's dropping from ... Space :D. It is a fun little addictive game where the player has to shoot the incoming horde when the shields are effectively down. This is indicated by arrows circling the enemies and when it hits the green zone you can kill them. We wish him the best of luck with it. The other highlight for us was the amazing talk on game design documents by the legendary Brenda Ramaro. Brenda went over here process of creating a GDD and how to write it so a programmer at 3am can understand it with out questioning what is written down by the designer. We hope Brenda and John come back to Ireland soon for another talk about game design. Well looks like I am in control of this sunday's musings again so come back and have a read :D.
I hope these post's are becoming more and more informative and I want to be as open about our design process as possible. Have a good week people :D |
