Hey guys and welcome to another Sunday musings the one and only place for the weekly roundup of what we have been getting up to in the past week.
Things are moving now literally as I have spent the end of the week creating walk and run animations for Evelyn. With her new rig I have much more control and freedom of movement then what was possible with the first rig. Sure there are a few weighting issues but they will be fixed as the animations are nearly done. It makes it easier to spot tearing or stretching if the model is moving and gives me a better understanding of how to fix any issues.
I also spent time during the week reworking the particles. Since we started on Reprieve I have learnt so much about how unity's particle systems work and have created an effect that I hope far surpasses the original. The particle was also our Screen shot of the week.
We also have worked on the Title intro and it is looking good. That will have to be shown much later on as we don't want to ruin the surprise and its always good to have a bit more in our back pockets to show later on.
Dan was busy this week putting in the advanced options. After working on how we will optimize the game for weaker machines Dan has now implemented a full menu worth of stuff to make and PC gamer proud. Including Bloom level controls and AA controls. Things like how the in -game textures show up and stuff is included in here with the game being able to run smoothly even on my laptop.
Dan has also started working on lava plat forms. Essentially platforms that react to Evelyn being present on top of them and they are floating on a pillar of molten lava. The effect is great and adds another layer to the game play.
Give us an ol' Tune there will ya!
As Sunday soundtracks ..... they are key to the blogs success and we cannot muse with out them!
I am going for JonTron and Schomoyoho "Titenic" been stuck in my head all week.
Dan is going for
Well that's it again for another Sunday Musings! Hope you all had a great week and ready for another.
Until next time Have Fun!!
Hello there! It's time for our weekly update of how development is going. It's been a slightly slow week really
I'm a smidgen late with this week, as I'm easily distracted by shiny things... 59.9? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
This week has been quite frustrating for me. It's been a week of trying to get Reprieve working on a laptop which, in theory, shouldn't really take that much effort. How wrong was I? Very, it seems
At the moment, one of the most developed levels (the scene with the town) is being used to test on a laptop. This is probably the most poly-heavy and has the most materials in the level thus far. Running it on a PC is fine. I'm getting roughly 350fps and I'd imagine Adrian is getting something very similar on his system at the moment. The problem is when you try and play that particular level on a non-gaming laptop. At the start of the week, we were getting about 17fps which is quite a drop and quite unplayable. After much messing around with removing the back-facing polys of the houses, I managed to get that number to 30fps. Finally, after turning off 2 post-process image effects, we've managed to get it to over 60fps which we're happy with but we'll see if there's any way to make it run a bit better I also did some minor work on the save game manager and the menu scripts to make them run a little more smoother, as we were getting rather large spikes caused by update functions. Adrian did some more work on the town level, add the final few textures in to make everything look more complete. He also created some Firework particles for the background. The scene is looking really lovely. Can't wait for people to see it in all it's glory. We're really happy with it so far Adrian also gave Evelyn a thorough make over with a re-mesh, re-texture, new shader and a new rig. As part of Screenshot Saturday, we showed off some of the changes
She now has proper hands, teeth, moveable eyes, and moveable hair. It's a much more complete and polished rig than the previous version. Next up for Evelyn, it's the animations!
Songs of the Week
I've gone with Mark Knopfler's "Wherever I Go" which is on his new album Tracker. Really good Song
Adrian's not here at the moment to select his song, so in his absence I'm picking a version of Radio Ga Ga that he hates. Technically it's my fault for doing this blog so late but dammit I'm going to annoy him regardless... Adrian's: Electric Six - Radio Ga GaDan's: Mark Knopfler - Wherever I Go
That's me for this week. Adrian will be back with the blogs next week
Enjoy the rest of the weekend |
