Welcome to this week's Sunday Musings. It's been somewhat of a weird week for us this week but lets get cracking nonetheless...
Too Sleepy to Think of a Decent Heading...
So this week, I've been working on a few small things. First of all, I started getting to work on cleaning up the folder system in Reprieve. Turns out being lazy with organisation is worse in the long run. It's mostly done now, the scripts and prefab folders still have to be done but at least things are looking somewhat cleaner and organised.
I also put in the new spirit ball that Adrian sent to me but that may need to be re-done due to a problem with the Trail Renderers. It makes it look like there's 1 extremely fast projectile every couple of seconds. So we'll probably change that to a particle. I've also been revisiting an old puzzle that I never finished. It's a tile puzzle. Despite looking good all week, it ultimately hasn't worked out as well as I'd hoped. Needs a lot more work mechanically. And finally, for me, I was working on cutscene stuff. I added another camera type into the game for the cutscenes which zooms in on either Evelyn or another transform. As part of this, I also got to work using Fungus for dialogue. It's such a good plugin, makes doing dialogue ridiculously easy. One less headache for me later on in development! Because I was doing the dialogue, Adrian got to work on some 2D art for the dialogue parts and the Evelyn portrait below was the result. Really liking the results!
He also did portraits of Sam and Evelyn's mother for their dialogue parts.
He's also been hard at work on the first boss scene. It's now been unwrapped and undergoing texturing. Adrian also downloaded Twine, so he can layout the story and we can reference and edit the dialogue quicker rather than using a large Word Document which would prove quite cumbersome. We also spent some of the week white-boxing out some of the Air Temple. We've finally finished that after leaving it half finished the last time, pre-CoxCon. Moooosic
It's time for our songs of the week. Adrian's in a Disney mood...when is he not? So this week he's gone for Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride from the film Lilo & Stitch.
I've gone for AFI's Girls not Grey. Adrian's: Lilo & Stitch - Hawaiian Roller Coaster RideDan's: AFI - Girls Not Grey
That's my lot for Sunday Musings this week. Adrian will be back on blogging duties next week, so give that a read next week.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Another week and more fire temple stuff! The next week and the following week should finish us in the fire temple so say good bye to the warm orange glow of the temple and get ready for the cool icy breeze of the next area in the game.
As for what we did this week we have set up the fire guardian boss battle scene. This scene will show off the old civilization housing that the humans used to reside deep in the temples bowels. This is now all abandoned and is the back drop to the first major boss battle in reprieve. I concepted out the entire level by doing a rough draw over the white box screen shot . This is how we do most of our actual aesthetic work in reprieve with out spending hours on doing detailed concepts.
Then when we agreed on a design we both agreed with I went into blender and modeled it up for us to use in engine. I am currently texturing the meshes and finalizing some small details such and it will be finished. Dan has his work cut out for him as the boss needs a reprogramming from what we had as now he just lays there but I trust in Dan 100%.
Speaking off Dan he was busy with lighting up the Demon mini boss battle that we used for the screen shot Saturday. He also fixed the camera to a new system that makes it much easier to distinguish between puzzle, adventure and battle mode. He also did some fading on the music in the starting cut scene and worked more on the combine manager. Dealing with ai he has the boss battle ai working better and the waves acting more in line with what was designed as they had an urge to run to one spot for some reason..... the urge is now dead and the battle is more contained with a static camera that allows players to keep track of the Demon boss much easier as all the action takes place on one screen. Da ling ling ling..........
That's the noise a banjo makes....... and that's a perfect time to link into our Soundtrack Sunday choices for the week. Dan goes first with Coheed and Cambria's - You got Spirit Kid
My choice will be Data with Dont Sing
Not a very long blog today I am sorry
Until next time Have fun ! |
