'Tis Sunday Musings. BAM!
Flying Skulls
It's been a busy week for us this week. I've been split between two projects which made things a little jumbled up early on in the week.
First of all, I've been hard at work doing some final tests for the Darts app. Only one feature in the entire app was causing issues and that was Facebook. After constant tinkering and trying to find a solution, I discovered that the problem was with Facebook itself, namely that the Facebook app on the developers account needed to be submitted for what we were trying to do. I was able to do a test which showed that the app itself is doing what it's supposed to which is good news I also did some work on 2 new enemies for the Fire Temple. The first one is the Flying Skull which is shown below in one of the Fire Temple levels. There's 2 variations of him so far, one with a helmet and another without one. The helmet acts as some armour for him and when he loses it, he charges. The variation without the helmet just spawns and charges but much slower than the helmet version. The other enemy is more of a nuisance type enemy. He's, basically, a Magma Blob and just moves left and right regardless of what the player does, leaving a trail of magma behind him which does damage to Evelyn.
This week Adrian modelled the flying Skull and the Magma Blob, rigged them and gave them some animations. I think the flying skull looks awesome in game, probably one of my favourite enemies.
He also sent me some stuff he did in previous weeks which needed to be implemented. Music
Time for our songs of the week. Adrian's gone for Bonnie Tyler's "I Need a Teemo"...I mean "I need a Hero".
I've gone for "Shut up and Dance" by Walk the Moon which has been stuck in my head all week Adrian's: Bonnie Tyler - I need a HeroDan's: Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance
That's our lot this week. Adrian's back on Blogging duties next week.
Until then, Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Happy Sunday All.... if you read this after Sunday I am sorry but the happy is gone now. Welcome back to another Sunday Musings. This week has been busy jumping from thing to thing but its all good and everything is progress.
Firstly I started off finishing the biggest scene in the fire temple with meshes and unwraps all ready for the awesome texturing that really ties that room together... that's a quote Dan should like. I also went over the Gui and did a more fitting compact style that we are still working on but it may be representative of that finale GUI. As we need to do a few more tests on it to make sure its clear and readable at a glance and that the player will not be struggling to figure out health while dodging attacks or solving a puzzle.
We also redesigned the climb from the fire temple to the air temple completely. And made it 100 times more fun and more interesting. As the very first iteration was just running up a chain, and the next being running up the chain and exploring some very empty floating islands with little to do but fight. Now we have hit a good spot with designing in puzzles action and some good set pieces that will make the climb more memorable.
Dan was busy doing more camera work, soon he will be a fully fledged cameraman for RTÉ. He is busy making it more flexible and working for large fights such as the first main boss where we want to keep him some what in frame even in a large scene. This is tricky as getting it to work one side is fine but then when we slide under the boss it has a weird glitch that flickers and mirrors the camera so that was something that needed to be fixed. Dan also did work on making the boss scene even better and sexier with lighting and bloomage. Speaking off lighting we have a new mechanic in the Air temple that makes the player explore at our pace by placing them in a completely black corridor and we have a new plant that looks like a dandilion but the seeds float off and emit light that guide the way for the player. More on this in the future! Music Corner
This week Dan has gone for " Howling at the moon" by the Ramones.
I am going for Sugar from Maroon 5
Well thats me done!
