Another Sunday Musings rolls around like a particularly round stone. (See Fig 1) So this week, we did some stuff. Oh the stuff we did. If only I could remember what we did. It seems to be the longest week in history... I did some more Object pooling. I'm a sick of mentioning it as you are of reading it but I'm up to 12 attacks and other particles done out of 19. We're nearly there! It's only the first batch of Object pooling, I then have to do enemy attack and such afterward. Think I'll take a long break before I get into that though! I also animated the level end portal that Adrian created, making it fade in and out and also spin. That was a short break from object pooling which was nice. Adrian on the other hand has been legitimately busy this week. He did a concept of the air temple which was the focus of this weeks Screenshot Saturday. Happy with how it looks, it'll hopefully look awesome in game! He also created a large version of the basic attack which has been missing from the game thus far. Essentially, It's a more powerful version of the basic attack which you get when Evelyn has the Spirit attack on both hands. He also tested out swirling clouds particle effect for the mountain in the background of the concept art. He also created effect for Water and Air Attacks when the powers are on Evelyn's hands (like already done with the Fire Attack and Spirit Attack). We also did some quick White-boxing of the next small section. Next week we'll be doing a lot more white-boxing of the next temple in the game which should mean more puzzles! Onto the Arrangement of Musical Notes! So onto the music for this week. I've gone for NoFX's "The Separation of Church and Skate", a favourite of mine. Adrian's gone for a cover of a song that was in Civilization IV. The cover is by Peter Hollens and Malukah and the song is "Baba Yetu". Arguably a better version than the original. Dan's: NoFX - The Separation of Church and SkateAdrian's: Peter Hollens Feat. Malukah - Baba Yetu"And now the end is near...Oh wait, it's here. I'll leave it there for this week.
Adrian will be doing a blog during the week. Don't forget to give that a read, as well as Sunday Musings next week. We also might be doing a "Lets Play" next week of some game...Lets face it, it'll be Hammerwatch or Risk of Rain. So watch out for that, if it actually gets done this time! Until then, enjoy the rest of the weekend and the week ahead. This week has been busy as we have had so much rain it filled pools. Ok this line seems out of context let me explain. So Dan has been busy using object pooling on all the attacks, exp and many other things during the week. We even got a bit of help from Mike Geig himself when there was a little issue. So that's the pool part the rain part is from the amount of risk of rain we played this week we have been unlocking new characters left and right and having a blast doing so. As I stated above Dan has been very busy pooling all the attacks and everything that needs to be reused alot in the game this saves massively on run time and creates less lag during game play if players and enemies spam attacks to fill the screen. As the attacks will only be pooled from a list of a set number of each. This creates a much smoother running experience that everyone should enjoy. The above picture is an explanation of the object pooling system from Mike Geig himself. Adrian has been busy prettying things up alot and texturing items and sketching up concept art for the temples. Building up a visual repository is important for helping with styles and textures used in game. Below is a sample of Adrian's Texture work in the house. Studying how different styles can effect different materials helped define the style down to this. As we were never aiming for photo like textures but more of a natural hand painted style. More and more of this world is filling in and the forest is no exception with this week shows of the Bee an aerial enemy that can be found through the forest. He is in the start area so will be an enemy you can all practice on soon enough. But I hear you say what about that weekend game you teased at us recently where is that!!!! Sit your little rumps down and I will give you another little sneak peek. This is the sand worm. He is a giant tunnelling worm that burst through the ground blocking the players progression for a few seconds. We are excited that this weekend game is coming together now with Ai and and game play soon we will be able to announce then shortly after release. Hopefully we will have a fully playable version for the next Dubludo! Tunage! Dan is first with his pick so here it is. This week he has chosen Going home by Mark Knopfler tis a good little ditty Adrian's turn now and he has gone from a song from the breaking bad soundtrack El Paso by Marty Robbins Time to ride the dusty road back home! Time to pack up and head back to where you came from .
It could be Google, it could be twitter, it could even be Facebook but head back with the songs in your hearts and enjoy the rest of this lovely sunny sunday! |
