Welcome to this week's Sunday Musings! First let us take a moment to wish our elderly member, who is close to collecting his pension, a Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday, Adrian! He's the big 27 today. There's fossils that are younger. True Story Smoking with MedusaSo this week we've made some nice progress on the game. Adrian modelled out a statue for the background of the Fire Temple. It can be seen in the background of this weeks Screenshot Saturday... It's about 800 polys give or take and it's looking pretty damn nice textured with the Ambient Occlusion and normal maps. These will be dotted around the Fire Temple which has a Norse style to it. Each Temple will have a different style which you'll see later on in development. I did some relatively small things this week, getting the AI and spawns for the smoke enemies in the first mini-boss battle done. So that was done pretty quickly, although the attacks haven't been done properly yet. So more work to be done on that at some stage over the coming weeks. The original plan was to get Ledge grabbing done this week too but I've put that off until a later stage so I can do it properly with an animation rather than having to re-do the mechanic at a later date. Hopefully next week we can get some degree of white-boxing done for the next Temple and we'll have a new section to play! Are You Dave Gorman? We went to see Dave Gorman this week in Vicar Street. Probably our favourite comedian and he did not disappoint and neither did Nick Doody who was the act on before. He was absolutely hilarious, really enjoyed his routine. Dave Gorman's routine was 2 hours of constant laughter. My face was actually sore from laughing by the end. Such a brilliant comedian. Afterward he did a signing thing, so we got pictures and autographs. We both also got one of his books (Adrian bought 2, I believe). All in all, an awesome night! This Weeks NoiseThis week I've gone for Lisa Hannigan's "What'll I do". Picked one of her songs last week and really like this one too. Adrian's gone for Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son" which is a classic. Awesome song. We've also made a Spotify playlist of all the music from Sunday Musings. Some songs are missing but the vast majority are there. We'll also be making individual playlists of music we like at some stage, so watch out for that. Here's a linky to the playlist. Sunday Musings Dan's: Lisa Hannigan - What'll I doAdrian's: Kansas - Carry On Wayward SonThat's our lotSo that's Sunday Musings done for another week. We'll be back again next week as usual, varying Bat Time, same Bat Channel. We'll also be doing the usual stuff like Screenshot Saturday on a Saturday of all days!
Adrian will be doing his blog this week and Sunday Musings, so be sure to give it a read. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hello people and welcome to another Sunday to sit back and have a read. The blog post that covers all the happenings in the BurnBrightGames week. So lets dive in shall we! This week was the week we went to the infamous DubLudo for yet another showing of our stuff to other irish dev's. Boy the place was packed and so the pub thought it wise to light a fire -_-. Luckily between the heat and a road being tore up we had another great night at DubLudo. We showed off the new set of levels for our upcoming title. With a few minor bugs went off with bang with a lot of attention and a lot of laugh's with good friends. The demo consisted of a whole new transition world where the player gets their first interaction with the element of Air. The other big part of this DubLudo was the Brenda Remaro talk. She covered the creation of a good Game Design Document. Brenda discussed how making things as clear as possible in the design document will help the flow of work and help any coder awake at 3am. Luckily we have our GDD already fully written and so descriptive that no issues will arise..... ain't that right Dan :D.(inside joke FTW). Here is the link to what Brenda covered http://bbrathwaite.wordpress.com/2008/11/30/creating-a-game-design-document/ Not only Brenda but the legendary John Ramaro was at DubLudo also. Both very nice down to earth people it is just a shame they are going back to the U.S.A we hope they enjoyed the time they spent in Ireland. We also hope they want to come back as soon as possible as them being here gave the Irish games industry a bit of a buzz and a bump into the public eye which is always a good thing for a budding industry. What else did you guys do this week !?! SHHHHHHH don't get hasty I am getting to the rest of the week now. Adrian was busy this week hand painting texture after texture all tile able all of the time. He studied images of real world materials and how light interacts with them. The use of light is what makes a texture pop and seem real and believable even in a stylized hand painted form. Painting textures from hand creates a much more unique world rather then downloading a picture from the web and slapping it onto geometry. The feeling of depth is made from lights and darks. That is the basics of any texture the colour value can be added via a new colour layer over this or lighting in game. Adrian went with lighting using the in game lights in unity to give the back wall some colour variants to show of this weeks screen shot Saturday. With good results from peoples reactions. Note that no normal or bump maps were used and the illusion of depth is solely from the diffuse texture . Dan was finishing off the menu's in game setting up new screen resolutions and quality settings. This is a feature that any good pc game should have and now we have it :D. Menu is fully functional now as displayed in the picture below XD. Dan also was working on a controller set up for the keyboard this is a tough challenge. Getting the game feeling the same as it does with the controller is tough. But we will make many different variants and see which fits best . Of course players will be able to customise them but we need to set up a base controller layout that we feel makes the game play the best using keyboard and mouse. Drop that hot beat! Time for our tunage of the week dan has gone for a real chilled out song with Safe Travels by Lisa Hannigan great song to listen to and read or write as I found out writing this I am adding this to my list as well XD I have gone with a classic that kept me going through the week. Somebody to Love by Queen And time to pull the curtains! Thank you for reading :D next week is a busy one for me with paper work and modelling and then for a burn bright games outing to DAVE GORMAN eeeeep :D really looking forward to it as he is one of our favourite comedians.
Dan will be covering all next weeks doings so he will be the lucky sod uploading pics from the show -_-. Buh bye! <3 |
